How do I decide what format is best for me?

If you are NOT using a computer to edit video, select either the SVHS or Mini-DV tape format depending on your equipment.

If you are using a computer or NLE (Nonlinear Editing System), you’ll want to choose either the CDROM or DVD version of our product. If you do not have a DVD drive in your computer, select the CD version.

When deciding what resolution (frame size dimension) you need, please consider the video project settings in your NLE software. What frame size do you use to capture your video clips, D1(720x486) or DV(720x480)? Ideally, you want the resolution or frame size of your Digital Hotcakes to match the frame size of your video clips. If you are using Firewire to capture your clips, you’re working in DV resolution
